If you want to be given everything,
give everything up.- Tao Te Ching
I am reminded of the parable of the pearl of great price inscribed within the sacred pages of the bible. About this guy, who had been searching for a pearl, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
This parable has always pointed me, to the ideal question of what really is important in life. That when we find that which means life, that which means sweetness and light, that when we come across a devotion so obsessing that it cages our souls, we can only find honest peace when we give everything up and throw ourselves into its service, until we become its voluntary slaves.
Allow me to share with you this Irish story that has always fueled my service and devotion. About this guy who showed up at the gates of heaven, ready to partake of all bliss and happiness. So Peter, the gate-man asked him to show his scar. The guy replied that he had no scar. At which point Peter asked him: All your life, you never found something worth fighting for?
My challenge: Search for that which means everything to you, we call it purpose. When you find it drop everything, relegate everything into unimportant. Look for it, pouring out all your heart. I know that it is a challenge. We are so much entangled in obligations and duties- lip kissing, ass kissing. At the moment when you are at the edge of things, and when suddenly your heart starts beating in joyous exuberance, then you follow your heart. You know the path, because it is important than everything else. The heart never fails. Search for the path, search with effort and mistakes. Each one of us has our own unique paradise we yearn to create. Each one of us must find our path to our hearts.
